Fantastic Digital light box by Joris Graaf, Holland (year unknown)

Illuminates the warmest light

Joris Graaf is a Dutch visual artist whose practice moves between photography, collage, and digital construction. Trained as a geologist, he first studied layers of stone and time before turning to the camera. His shift from photographer to artist was a process of undoing and rebuilding, driven by a search for emotion, rhythm, and stillness rather than documentation.

Graaf photographs across the world, gathering impressions that shape his layered, abstract works. He combines double exposures, material layering, and physical interventions such as cutting, erasing, and reassembling prints. His process is intuitive and raw, guided by rhythm and contrast in a way he often compares to composing music.

Though internationally recognized in the field of abstract photography, Graaf does not define himself as a photographer. He constructs images rather than captures them. He lives and works in The Hague, while his photographs span the globe.
