The word 'Sommerso' means 'submerged' or 'sunken’. This means the Sommerso art involves submerging a blown article in crystal clear molten glass of a different colour. This technique was involved in Murano in 1930 by Carlo Scarpa. The process makes the Sommerso pieces some of the most collectible glass in the world.
